Dear Southfork East Community Residents,

The Southfork East Community Development District (CDD) would like to remind all residents that draining swimming pools, spas, or other large volumes of water into the District’s ponds, conservation areas, or adjacent drainage systems is strictly prohibited.

The District has observed instances where pool water has been discharged directly into District ponds. This practice can result in significant erosion of pond banks and surrounding areas, causing damage to District infrastructure. The cost to repair this erosion is ultimately borne by the District and funded through resident assessments, creating an unnecessary financial burden on the community.

In addition to erosion concerns, pool water may contain chlorine, salt, algaecides, and other chemicals that can negatively impact water quality, aquatic life, and the overall health of the stormwater management system.

Residents are responsible for ensuring that pool water is discharged in accordance with all applicable local, county, and state regulations. If you are planning to drain your pool, please contact your pool service provider or the appropriate local authority to determine the proper method of disposal.

The District appreciates your cooperation in protecting our community’s stormwater system and preserving our ponds for the benefit of all residents. Your assistance helps prevent costly repairs and protects community assets.

Even in Florida plants do dormant usually the native to more temperate climates, but not as severs as in the northern states.  During this cooler time plant growth slows down and some trees and plants lose their leaves.  Bahia grass that is primarily around ponds will also do dormant and appear brown.  The grass will green-up again when the weather gets warmer again.

Terms:

Leaf Drop:  Many deciduous trees like crape myrtles, elms, and sweetgums will lose their leaves for winter.  Trees like Oaks and Magnolias will drop some leaves, but not all.

Slowed Growth:  Hormone changes triggered by cooler temperatures cause plants to enter into a rest period to conserve energy.

Varied Intensity: The degree of dormancy which varies across the state.  Plants in South Florida can experience only a mild state of dormancy due to the short chilling period.
